NEWBURGH - Award-winning photographer and interdisciplinary artist, Star Nigro, is currently featured at the Mindy Ross Gallery in Kaplan Hall at SUNY Orange's Newburgh campus, according to the school.

Her art, and her series of photographs and photo jewelry celebrating the vitality of the peoples of and everyday life from Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico will be on display in the Mindy Ross Gallery through Nov. 21.

The show, entitled “Everyday Latin America - photography & photo jewelry by Star Nigro,” is inspired by the art of photographing the moment and the organic poetic beauty of life, according to the school.

She transforms her photographs by hand into 3-D objects and functional, wearable art. Her belief is that photographs shouldn’t just hang on the wall but should integrate into everyday living; hence, her photo jewelry collection “Live the Art” speaks her philosophy and approach as an artist, a press release from the school said.

According to the release, Nigro holds a BFA in photography from the College of Art & Design, Lesley University in Boston, Massachusetts.

She has exhibited her artworks in Boston, Albany, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Woodstock, and in galleries in smaller cities as well.

Her artistic background in the fine arts has greatly influenced her innovative approach to teaching, according to the release. Presently she is the art program director of My Kingston Kids as well as being a teaching artist for the Bronx Council on the Arts workshop series.

In addition to the show, she will share her enthusiasm for the arts and her skills in creating 2D and 3D art in a master class-workshop on Thursday, Nov. 8 entitled “Eco Art Mural.”

The class will meet at 2:45 p.m. in the OBCT Great Room 101 in Kaplan Hall, according to the release.

The Mindy Ross Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday.

The gallery is situated in the eastern section of the first floor of Kaplan Hall which is located at the corner of Grand and First Streets on the Newburgh campus of SUNY Orange, according to the release.
