  • Warwick Police Department will hold its next "‘Coffee with a Cop" at the Tuscan Café on Oct. 4

WARWICK — The Town of Warwick Police Department will host “Coffee with a Cop" at the place where it all began – the Tuscan Café, located at 5 South St. in the Village of Warwick.

The Police Department held its first event there in 2015.

Cristie Ranieri, owner of the Tuscan Café, is looking forward to welcoming the police and residents to her establishment on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 9 to 11 a.m.

Special this year is that the event will be held on the second annual National Coffee with a Cop Day in conjunction with other agencies throughout the country.

The program started in California in 2011 by members of the Hawthorne Police Department when they were looking for ways to interact more successfully with residents.

Since then, the program has grown with such meetings being hosted in all 50 states and has event expanded to Canada, Europe, Australia and Africa.

This event is an opportunity to ask questions to police officers in a casual and comfortable setting.

Warwick Police Lt. John Rader said it's also a great way to build and maintain relationships with residents.

“We want people to know that we are willing to listen to them and to help them with any concerns they may have,” Rader said.
