— Festive 90th birthday celebrations are very popular events at the Warwick Valley Seniors Club.

And on Wednesday, Aug. 13, that was true for Warwick resident Ruth Langlitz, who was born on Sept. 13, 1927.

Just like other members, who celebrated their 90th birthday this year, Langlitz was born when the president of the United States was Calvin Coolidge. Babe Ruth was the highest paid baseball player in history at $70,000 per year and Charles Lindberg earned fame and fortune when he became the first pilot to fly a single engine airplane non stop across the Atlantic from New York to Paris.

Langlitz is not only a lifelong resident of Warwick but until she retired 25 years ago, she served as the bookkeeper for the Town of Warwick.

"And the woman who replaced me has also retired," she said. "You can mention interesting facts like that when you're 90 years old."

Langlitz has also served as the treasurer of the Warwick Valley Seniors Club since the 1990s.

She and her late husband, Henry, who also worked for the town in the Warwick Department of Public Works, raised two children, a son and a daughter. Today Langlitz can boast about her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren

The celebration, cutting of the cake and everyone singing, "Happy Birthday," took place at the spacious and modern facility that is the Warwick Senior Center, adjacent to the Town Hall on Kings Highway, which first opened in June 2005.

The advantage of membership in The Warwick Valley Seniors Club also includes taking trips together and enjoying entertainment and informative guest speakers.

The only requirement for membership in The Warwick Valley Seniors Club is that you must be age 60 or over.

Anyone interested in joining or wanting additional information should call Marie Sisti at 986-9113.
